Harri Koskinen
Born in Karstula, Finland, in 1970, Harri Koskinen’s furniture and versatile design objects have aroused great international interest. His Block Lamp and All Steel cookware collections have a clear purpose but the way in which he conceptualizes and executes the design are unmatched. Koskinen strives to find solutions that are innovative for both the consumer and producer. His process to create innovative designs relies on the subject of the work and the particular insight that comes to him in the moment, saying “Only rarely do ideas and insights come through effort; their emergence cannot be predicted.” This original and on-the-spot inspiration is what has given his designs such uniqueness. Through the years, he has won several awards. The most significant of them was Compasso d’Oro Award in 2004. Since 1998, Koskinen has had his own studio, Friends of Industry, which offers product, concept and exhibition design services. Functionality and uncompromising aesthetics characterize Koskinen’s clean designs.
