I have been collecting Ultima Thule for years and have tried using some of the glasses for votive holders, but this is just the right size. I will probably use it primarily with battery-operated votives, as i don't always trust myself with actual flame, so that means i can use it in places where a real votive might be a problem.

I bought these for a Lord of the Rings/Hobbit themed birthday party, thinking they looked woodsy. They do, especially winter woods, especially ancient winter woods. I'll continue to use them for winter arrangements--Christmas, midwinter, late winter. They have a far-away fairy tale look. "Once upon a bitter cold wintertime..."
Cons
Not sure what it is but there is something 1950s/outdated looking about them too. Perhaps it's the squatty, stunted dimension that makes them cartoonish.

I have a few Thule items handed down from my parents and have fond memories of them from my childhood. This little votive holder is an exact miniature of the lovely Thule bowl in my living room. I have mixed it in among my other Iittala candle holders, and it makes for a very pretty display. Great price for a little work of glass art (and beautiful at night with a lit votive inside!).

Like all of Tapio Wirkkala's Ultima Thule works of art, the clear candle holders are beautiful, well designed and have a special place in my home. My thought was as a Christmas decoration with red tea lights but am enjoying them with white and yellow tea lights as well. I highly recommend these candle holders.
