Much like the city's street system, a grid pattern pays ode to Capitol Hill while adding depth and dimension to the already striking round body. A mirror-like finish reflects the shapes, colors, and movements of its surroundings while casting its own beautiful, blue glow. The bird's beak is off to one side, lending it an exploratory glance.Iittala chose five influencers from around the world to channel the soul of their city in a collaborative design project called Bird and the City. Owner of DC-based Pop! Gift Boutique provided inspiration to Oiva Toikka for the design of the Washington DC bird. The birds of Oiva Toikka's 2016 collection are individually mouth-blown by the master glassblowers at iittala’s glassworks in Finland. Each handcrafted iittala Toikka Minneapolis Bird carries the signature “O. Toikka IITTALA Washington DC Bird” and is numbered on its base to ensure authenticity.

This bird has a myriad of blues & greens that meld together as light touches it. The center of the city on the grid shows where the U.S. Capitol would be. Love it!

Does the Washington bird come with a display case? I bought some others in the Toikka City Bird series and they have a hexagonal display case like the one in the attached photo file.
