Exclusive to FinnStyle and select retailers, the iittala Toikka Minneapolis bird is part of a collaborative collection called Bird and the City. Minneapolis-based FinnStyle had the opportunity to provide Oiva Toikka with inspiration to design a bird that captures the city's spirit. Only 200 total have been produced, making the numbered beauty a must-have for Toikka collectors and those who love or live in Minneapolis.
The clear body is embellished with windswept lines to symbolize Minneapolis' wintry weather, while a band of green graces the back as an ode to the flowing Mississippi river. Much like the fluid form of the water itself, the exact size, shape, and placement of this detail varies. This holds true for the entire mouth-blown and handcrafted bird as each one is a unique piece of glass art.Iittala chose five influencers from around the world to channel the soul of their city in a collaborative design project called Bird and the City. FinnStyle's Megan Milkowski provided inspiration to Oiva Toikka for the design of the Minneapolis bird. The birds of Oiva Toikka's 2016 collection are individually mouth-blown by the master glassblowers at iittala’s glassworks in Finland. Each handcrafted iittala Toikka Minneapolis Bird carries the signature “O. Toikka IITTALA Minneapolis Bird” and is numbered on its base to ensure authenticity.

Beautiful design that is a graceful interpretation of glass art. The green band is a vibrant accent that pairs well with the delicate white lines wrapping around the crystal clear body of the bird. It looks exquisite upon my glass topped end table by the window with the light pouring through as the mirrored image highlights the bird's magnificent features. FinnStyle shipped the bird the same day I ordered it and was able to accommodate my request for a specific number of the edition. I am exceedingly happy with my purchase.
