Taking place on a cruise from Boston to Montreal, FinnFest 2016 is an event to remember. Oiva Toikka immortalizes the special voyage in glass with the iittala Toikka Small Dotterel - FinnFest 2016 Bird. The English word "Dotterel" dates back to 1440 as an insult to someone considered foolish or easily duped. It's unsure which usage came first, but the Dotterel bird shares this name due to its unsuspecting nature which makes it easily caught. With its translucent beak and blue head slightly cocked, this glass bird's posture is true to the the tame and trusting disposition of the species. Dotterel's beauty can not only be seen but felt, thanks to the textured plumage the glassblowers in Finland have skillfully achieved. The wings remain smooth ovals on either side.The birds of Oiva Toikka's 2016 collection are individually mouth-blown by the master glassblowers at iittala’s glassworks in Finland. Each handcrafted iittala Toikka Small Dotterel - FinnFest 2016 Bird carries the signature “O. Toikka IITTALA FinnFest 2016” on its base to ensure authenticity.

This was a anniversary gift from my husband. I was expecting a small bird but to my surprise I got this beautiful large bird. Love the colors and the way they made the wings amazes me. It's like 2 birds in one. Can't wait for more like this one.
