The design is charming. It gets 4 stars instead of 5 because magnifying the original probably resulted in some loss of resolution. The try would have benefitted from a shinier top coating. Overall, still a nice tray to serve food to the kids (and grownups...).

I use mine as a tray on my living room couch table to hold the TV remote, coffee cup, and various other items. The tray protects the table and has a cute happy pattern to lift the spirits. Perfect size for the job.

Don't see any scratches since I've been using it; so it appears to resist scratches even though it is a form of plastic.
