Bronze is an alloy that consists of copper, tin and zinc, and typically oxidizes faster than precious metals. All our bronze jewelry has a protective lacquer coating, which prevents discoloration of the skin and delicate light-colored fabrics. This lacquer coating is eroded by various chemicals and slowly wears off. We recommend, therefore, taking off bronze jewelry while practicing sports, taking a sauna or swimming in chlorinated or salt water. Areas where the protective lacquer has worn off may be buffed with a Kalevala Jewelry polishing cloth. After cleaning the piece of jewelry with a polishing cloth, rinse the jewellery in mild soapy water so that the residue detergent from the cloth does not stain. If necessary, the protective lacquer coating can be restored by Kalevala Jewelry’s own maintenance service for a fee.
