FinnStyle Owner Travels to Finland
FINNSTYLE OWNER AND MINNEAPOLIS LEADERS WILL TRAVEL TO FINLAND TO ACKNOWLEDGE 40 YEARS OF A SUCCESSFUL SISTER CITY PARTNERSHIP
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Aug. 13, 2013 – To commemorate 40 years of a fruitful sister city partnership, members of the Minneapolis Kuopio Partnership (MKP) Committee will travel to Kuopio, Finland Aug. 24 – 28. Minneapolis representatives of business, government, education, health care, and the arts will meet with their Finnish counterparts to exchange new ideas and methods that can be mutually implemented in Kuopio and Minneapolis.
"There is great value in visiting other countries and meeting face-to-face," said Ben Horn, MKP committee member and owner of FinnStyle. "I am confident that every member of our delegation will bring back new ideas that will further their organization's mission and improve our community."
While in Finland, the committee will visit Saaristokaupunki, a town of islands that offers an affordable and versatile living alternative to the densely populated city of Kuopio. Committee members will also meet with Kuopio City Mayor Petteri Paronen amid stops at several organizations and landmarks. Additionally, Horn hopes to source new and interesting products for FinnStyle, which will include visits to the Adelta Furniture Vision factory and the Hanna Korvela Design showroom.
"This trip gives me the opportunity to look at these items first-hand. As the largest online retailer of modern Finnish design goods in the U.S., I want to consistently offer our customers an extensive selection of high-quality products and continue exposing people to the Finnish design aesthetic."
The history of the Minneapolis-Kuopio partnership dates back to June 1, 1973 when Minneapolis city clerk Lyall Schwarzkopf invited Kuopio to become an official sister city to Minneapolis. This gesture was partly in response to Kuopio Mayor Eino Luukkonen's letter to Minneapolis Mayor Charles Stenvig in 1972, informing him that the Kuopio Municipal Council had named Minneapolis one of its "friendship towns."
