Giorgio Vigna, the newest designer of Iittala’s glass birds is an Italian artist and jewelry designer who is fascinated by the tension of opposites; reality and imagination, shape and material. Vigna’s 2007 collection features three species: Contrasti, Colori and Circoli.
Vigna’s creations are a contemporary interpretation of the animal kingdom and offer multiple layers of glass to bring out the intensive effects of thick glass. Light plays on the polished surface and shines through the layers. These birds look compact but the many layers of glass make them surprisingly heavy.
The Vigna collection brings about a magical new journey for Iittala’s Nuutajärvi Glassworks, which has been producing complex works for artglass for more than 200 years. Read more.
