2009 Arabia Fauna Plate - Wolf

In 2000, iittala Arabia started a collectors’ series of art plates. Finnish fables that imaginatively tell about folklore and the richness of Finnish nature were selected to be the theme of these collectors’ items. Two art plates – one square and one round – that depict the animals and plants that appear in the stories are released each year.

For 2009, iittala Arabia presents us with the Wolf and the Mushroom. This pair of art plates is based on the fable titled, "The wolf carries the fox on his back."

Once upon a time, a fox and a wolf were together on a long journey. The fox said to the wolf, "I can’t walk any further. I’m feeling mighty ill; will you carry me on your back!" Said the wolf, "I’m ailing too, but hop onto my back anyway." And so the fox got a lift from the wolf. While sitting on the wolf's back, the fox starts to sing, "He’s ailing, I’m well, he’s carrying me, Bushy Tail is snoozing!." "What song is that?" asks the wolf. "Oh, it’s just one of my Father’s old songs,” replies the fox. The fox was actually perfectly well at the time; he just wanted a lift.

Each plate is accompanied by a small booklet describing the fable and the history of the Arabia Flora & Fauna series. In addition, each plate has a certificate of authenticity ensuring it's a genuine Arabia piece.

Measures approximately: 8” x 8” (20 x 20 cm)

Includes a hook on the back of the plate for hanging on your wall.
