iittala Toikka Raquel - 2009 Annual Bird

We are sorry but this item is sold out and no longer available.

Lovely in appearance, original in process, this Toikka creation was made thanks to a little accident at the Nuutajarvi glass factory. Workers noticed that dirt from the molds left brownish markings on the glass, a defect that was initially lamented. But Toikka saw the potential in the defect and decided to make it a part of his glass bird design. The tracery-like marks on Raquel are the spectacular results of this serendipitous discovery. The pattern is achieved through the use of a spikey mold, which creates bubbles in the glass.

Raquel is a limited edition bird, made for 2009. It is posed as if resting on a branch or nest, with its flat brown tail lifted in the air. A gorgeous and unique creation, this Toikka bird is a must-have item for any collector.

Measures: 8” L x 3” W x 4-1/2” H (20 x 8 x 11 cm)
Signed: O. Toikka Nuutajärvi 2009
