A fanciful print by Maija and Kristina Isola, the Marimekko Uuna Musta Tamma Dress is a lovely celebration of Maija’s early exuberant patterns. An ode to her upbringing on a farm, Maija remained greatly inspired by the countryside throughout her career and her early patterns reminisce on these times. Created in part for herself and partly for her daughter Kristina, Maija created the Musta Tamma or “black mare” print in 1954. The repeating picture of a proud steed amongst little yellow bales of hay exudes an innocent charm that is impossible to resist.

Incredibly easy to wear, the classic A-line cut slowly skims the silhouette of your body, slightly fitted near the bust and wider at the hemline. Four blue buttons run down the back allowing you to unfasten and slip-on this cotton dress with ease. Sleeveless, fully-lined and featuring a scoop neck front, this dress makes for easy fit. The dress can be worn on its own or with Marimekko Leggings underneath for added warmth.Marimekko Measurements

Lovely dress
December 6, 2011
Have worn this dress several times already and have received many complements. It is comfortable, well-made, easy to wear and the fabric design is lovely.
Pros
  • I love the design of the fabric and the fact the dress is comfortable. Because the style is not too fitted I was happy to buy it from overseas and was reasonably sure it would fit me.
Cons
  • I find the synthetic lining is a little hot for the humid Australian Summers and considered cutting it out of the dress. I've decided to keep it as a cooler weather dress as I didn't want to run the risk of ruining it.
