Q & A
Ornamental bands wrap across the heavily patterned surface of Marimekko’s Pidot fabric. Designed by Maija Isola, the Pidot print was produced during Isola’s obsession with traditional Slovakian textiles and folk art. As evident, the detailed pattern has an overtly decorative nature which differed from the simple, modern design common during the early postwar times in Scandinavia. Warmly welcomed by the public during its introduction in 1960, this print re-affirmed the beauty and timelessness of folk art.
