Marimekko Olkalaukku Black Messenger Bag

i have it in brown and black. it's the most versatile bag ever. i can take it to the dog park, to run errands or to dinner at night (sans the dog hair). it's surprisingly large, you'd be surprised how much can fit in it. and it's fairly water proof, unless you get hit by a wave, in which case stuff will get wet. but it will dry quickly. great for traveling also. and timeless.

Just like my 34 year old blue one my Aunt and Uncle brought back from a trip to Finnland. Figured it was time to replace it. Only thing wrong with old one...it faded after 30+ years of washing.

Bought an extra one for my niece for graduation to continue the tradition.

I first bought this bag in Finland in 1996 and have used it almost daily since. A few years ago I noticed that it had faded (sun-bleached?) to a brown colour and, despite it looking pretty shabby, continued to use it every day. Finally, in the Fall of 2012, after years of very heavy loads and probably a weakening of the canvas after 16 years of service, the side of the bag started to split. I went to the FinnStyle website, and, despite the desire to be a little more adventurous, bought the exact same bag I purchased as a student 16 years earlier! The bag arrived a week later and I have fallen in love with it all over again. This is a great, simple, really useful bag that is the perfect size and can easily go from the classroom to work to dinner. Here's looking forward to another decade and a half of great style and fabulous function.

The durability of this bag was great-I have had it since 1988 and used it almost daily- new laptop just a little too heavy and it's starting to rip. Love this bag!
