2015 marks the 100th anniversary since Tapio Wirkkala’s birth, and this set of two dewdrop-kissed plates is the perfect commemoration and celebration of his life and works. In classic literature, Ultima Thule is used to reference the furthest possible place in the world. Designed in 1968, the Ultima Thule Glassware similarly references the icy cold reaches of Scandinavia. I bought 10 dinner plates in March 2015. I assumed that they would be microwave safe since they are glass but unfortunately one of my plates broke in half in the microwave. Are they not actually microwave safe?
They are not recommended to be used in the microwave
- only dishwasher safe.

Question regarding the Ultima Thule Dinner Plates- in the photo these plates appear to have a dark colored border, and not the all-glass plates of the past. Can you clarify this; i.e., are the plates completely glass, or do they have a colored/dark border around the plates? Thank you for your time and help!
The plates are all glass. This is a shadow in the picture due to the small, lipped curve the plates have.
