From their siren song to their speckled plumage, the thrush species of birds are considered to be among the most beautiful in the avian world. This year renowned glass artesian Oiva Toikka has chosen the Mistle Thrush to be the inspiration for 2013. Blown using a special technique called fire staining, the periwinkle spots shine against the misty, opal-grey background. Sturdy and stoic, the substantial pedestal base supports the large body of the bird. The steel blue plank tail cantilevers straight out from the body to visually balance the bird's slender, elongated beak. One of only 220 birds created, celebrate 2013 as the iittala Mistle Thrush bird perfectly perches atop any surface with grace.
