Q & A
In the late 1940s, Ilmari Tapiovaara entered a competition to design furniture for the student housing complex at the Helsinki University of Technology: this was the winning chair. Named Lukki, it would later turn into a whole series of modern pieces for Finnish brand Artek. Lukki means "Daddy Longlegs" in Finnish, a humorous yet fitting name for this spider-like stool of three steel tube limbs that playfully contrast with a wooden seat. The modern forms represent strength, versatility, and durability in any use.
