The Origin of Fire with Lahti Symphony OrchestraThe work of Jean Sibelius is resurrected under the expert direction of Osmo Vanska. The music borrows themes and stories from the monumental Finnish work, the Kalevala. Nationalist themes abound on this album not only in allusions to the Kalevala, but also in metaphors to the current political situation. At the time Finland was under the control of Russia, a state many Finns were dissatisfied with. Sibelius makes a passionate call for freedom in the Captive Queen, summoning his people to rise in opposition. It is an album full of emotion and Finnish spirit. Osmo Vanska directs the Lahti Symphony Orchestra with the YL Male Voice Choir.
