2007 iittala Arabia Flora Plate - Oak LeafThis item is no longer available.
In 2000, iittala Arabia started a collectors’ series of art plates. Finnish fables that imaginatively tell about folklore and the richness of Finnish nature were selected to be the theme of these collectors’ items. Two art plates – one square and one round – that depict the animals and plants that appear in the stories are released each year.
For 2007, iittala Arabia presents us with the Jay and the Oak Leaf. This pair of art plates is based on the fable of the Jay and the Cuckoo.
Once upon a time, the jay had a wedding to attend. His jacket was so tatty that he went to the cuckoo to ask for a better one. He promised to bring it back, but never did. That’s why the jay won’t ever chirp a word as long as the cuckoo is around. And, that’s why jay’s plumage is more beautiful than the cuckoo’s. Because the jay swindled the cuckoo out of his plumes, the cuckoo has to wear shabby clothing all of his life.
Each plate is accompanied by a small booklet describing the fable and the history of the Arabia Flora & Fauna series. In addition, each plate has a certificate of authenticity ensuring it's a genuine Arabia piece.
Measures approximately: 8” x 8” (20 x 20 cm)
Includes a hook on the back of the plate for hanging on your wall. *These art plates are not designed for serving food.
