The Steller's Eider is iittala's limited-edition, Annual Bird for 2006. Designed by Finnish artist Oiva Toikka, the Steller's Eider is rendered appropriately in glass form; its clear, icy head; its ice-pocked air bubbles and laced, silvery ribbon mimic icy waters and wintry plumage. Its broad-billed beak is metallic, showing off its natural tendencies to dive into icy waters.
Measures: 9" L x 5-1/4" H (23 x 13.3 cm)
The annual bird is a limited-edition work of art; production is limited to one year. Each bird is a unique piece of artglass, hand-made at iittala's glassworks in Nuutajärvi, Finland. Each bird carries Oiva Toikka's signature and the year 2006 on its base.
